Why We Rebranded Our Wellness Branding Agency And Niched Down to Do It

Date:

Burning out is a signal, not a failure

This is the story behind our rebrand from Anastasia Salazar Ltd to Salazar Studio — a wellness branding agency built for modern health and purpose-driven companies that are ready to be seen differently. Here's what we did, why we did it, and what we learned along the way.

Why We Rebranded

Let's be honest. Running a branding agency is a huge investment. Long hours, high stakes, constant creative output. For a while, the momentum carried us. Then it didn't. The work started feeling stale. I felt burnt out and unmotivated — and that was a real gut punch, because creative joy was literally one of the reasons I started this business.

I had to ask myself a direct question: if I'm going to make this sacrifice, it had better be worth it. For me, that meant more alignment — in the clients I work with, in the methods I use, in the work itself. Not just producing polished deliverables for whoever walked through the door, but designing for brands I genuinely believe in, with a creative freedom that isn't constantly hemmed in by convention or professionalism.

I needed to feel it, believe in it, and mean it."

That recognition — and the courage to act on it — is what started the rebrand.

Strategy

Building the foundation before touching the logo

Before we redesigned a single element, we had to get clear on strategy: who we are, who we serve, and what we actually stand for as a studio. This meant working with messaging brand strategist Jessie Bosley to translate the ideas living in my head into language that was clear, ownable, and true.

We started with establishing our brand values. Instead of operating on instinct, we had a framework. When difficult decisions came up in the business, the values answered them. That clarity gave me genuine confidence in leadership.

We also decided to rename from Anastasia Salazar Ltd to Salazar Studio. Shorter. Stronger. Still unmistakably us — the logo maintained continuity with the previous mark, an evolution of the type rather than a clean break. We're the same business, just with a clearer identity.

Brand Pillars

Our five brand pillars became the through line of everything — how we talk about the work, how we show up with clients, and how we evaluate whether a project is right for us.

Pillar 01: Human at the core
Every brand needs a heartbeat. We start with the people — surfacing the real motivations of brand teams and their audiences.

Pillar 02: Cultural intelligence
We design with the world in mind. Reading cultural signals and translating them into identities that feel current without chasing trends.

Pillar 03: Feeling, first
We lead with emotional intent and use design to make that feeling unmistakable. Our brands think and feel in equal measure.

Pillar 04: Energy is in the process
Big results, zero ego. A collaborative process that's dynamic and alive — clarity building momentum toward bold creative.

Pillar 05: A new wave of wellness
We challenge category defaults to present bolder paths forward. Wellness has been stale — we're giving it its pulse back.

Niching Down

Wellness doesn't mean what you think it means

When people hear "wellness branding," they picture juice bars and yoga studios. That's a fraction of it. Our definition is wider — and more interesting. Wellness, to us, is any brand driven by betterment and wellbeing. That's a big creative territory.

  • Physical health

  • Nutrition & food

  • Mental health

  • Community building

  • Coaching & transformation

  • Clean and green consumer goods

  • Environment

The niche never felt restrictive. If anything, it was liberating. It sharpened our positioning, attracted the right clients, and gave our creative work a consistent north star: is this brand driving toward a better version of something?

We're operating in a space that's settled into sameness. Most wellness brands are producing work that looks interchangeable — soft colors, spaced out sans-serif typography, and a vague sense of serenity. That's exactly the gap we built Salazar Studio to occupy. Not more of the same, but a genuinely new creative direction: bold, culturally fluent, and unmistakably alive.

Visual Identity

Edgier than the founder's brand — by design

I had been freelancing for years before this became an agency. The previous brand was a natural evolution of my freelance identity — which meant it was very tied to me as a person. That wasn't bad, but it wasn't quite right for what Salazar Studio had become.

I'm glad I waited. I needed time to understand what the studio's thing actually was before I could brand it. The new identity had to be less traditional, more edgy, more magnetic. It needed to attract the right kind of client — open-minded, discerning, not afraid.

A few core parts of our visual identity:

Isolated objects as stickers. Design elements that are self-contained, fun to use, and easy to adapt and personalize for clients. The system needed to feel flexible, not rigid.

Gradient orbs as atmosphere. Bright, gradient orbs became our way of bringing in vibrancy and color without being loud. They work as backgrounds, as accents, as energy. See an example of this in our presentation templates.

Monospaced type throughout. Precision, character, and just the right amount of technology.

Elegant embellishments. Our script title typeface and ornamental illustrations added duality and elegance.

Tone of Voice

Our messaging started with target words that describe who we are and who we're not. It was the easiest point of entry and acted as a filter for messaging decisions moving forward. Ours was built on six qualities that define how Salazar shows up, paired with what we actively avoid:
Vibrant | Personable | High-Momentum | Creative Electricity | Intuitive | Magnetic

We’re not:
Stiff | Fluffy | Generic | Corporate | Insensitive

Then came the more nuanced work of defining our brand manifesto, and finally our tagline — the line that wrapped it all up with a bow on top.

Rollout

The part nobody talks about.

Announcing a rebrand is not the same as launching one. There's a long list of invisible work between "we're ready" and "the world knows." Here's the honest rollout sequence:

  1. Align the team internally before going external. They need to live in the new identity first.

  2. Update the SEO and technical backend — new domain, email deliverability, 301 redirects. This takes longer than expected.

  3. Announce the coming rebrand to warm up your audience. We posted our teaser on the old site before the launch.

  4. Launch publicly, with context. Not just a "new look" post, but the why— because your audience deserves to understand the shift.

  5. Keep building. A brand isn't done on launch day. It needs to grow, be updated and documented. You owe it to yourself after all the work you put in. We’re still adding assets, templates and updates 6 months later!

This is next-generation wellness branding

Our concept is simple: we're a catalyst of transformation that empowers brands to take on deeper dimension and a clearer perspective. For small and mid-sized wellness companies ready to stop blending in, Salazar Studio is built for you.
